I was 3 almost 4 whan my mother passed away. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters and I also had a sister who passed away when she was 6 months old. From what I was told she was born with a broken spinal cord. I don't remember too much but what I do remember is that I was in a crib (I think) and I remember a woman putting on lipstick and I have another memory when my mother was in the hospital or this was something I have been told, that my uncle took us for ice cream and I think he was the one that told us about my mother dying....but not really sure. Thats it for me.
As a young girl, I remember opening the front door of my grandmother's home and being welcomed by family laughter, serious looks of card game players and the soulful serenades of the seventies. As much as I looked forward to stepping inside, the roses that grew along the porch never let me go in without first kissing my heart hello. It was at my grandma’s house that I fell in love with flowers, family, music and food.
